Because of the school play, our schedule was adjusted. To accommodate for the schedule change and the shortened intervention, we did interventions in class for our last two unit tests.
Our last test for the unit! Check out the waning gibbous in the sky in the morning on your way to school. Impresionante!
We made phases of the moon today with Oreos. Last test tomorrow for the unit!
Due to Mr. Frenzel's absence, the Mythbusters reviewed the conspiracy theories of whether or not NASA went to the moon. We completed an assignment to record the components of the myth and whether or not it was busted.
Due to having a substitute this next Monday, we finished out moon phases foldable today. Tuesday and Thursday will be the tests (2 total, one each day) for the unit. Wednesday will be an in-class intervention for those who need it because BAM time will be occupied by the 6th grade concert.
For those who have expressed interest in the science fair, here are the materials Mr. Hill provides for his students. The fair will be February 25th.
Today we practiced the phases of the moon using a folding visual aid. The goal is to understand what causes the phases.
5th hour took the quiz we ran out of time for last week, and we practiced writing the phases of the moon in order.
Today we practiced our moon phases and finished our flipbooks. 3rd hour took a quiz while 5th hour ran out of time.
Today our substitute teacher led the class in a matching game. Students had to match the phase name with the picture of the moon phase and the description of where the earth, moon, and sun are positioned.
We finished making our model of the sun, moon, and earth and practiced making moon phases using life sized student examples.
Today we colored a model of the sun, moon, and earth. We also updated our foldable with the phase of the moon.
We started a foldable today where we drew the phases of the moon, starting with the first of January. We will continue until the end of the month.
With a fair amount of celebration, we finished our unit on the size and scale of the universe with a test.
After an extended hiatus, we reviewed the size and scale of the universe by making pocket solar systems.
