After much begging, I relented and let students watch the Science Court episode on gravity.
Today we had some successful structures that protected Pringles, and a whole more crumbs!
Today we experimented with gravity by smashing Pringles chips. Actually, the goal was to construct some kind of barrier to protect the Pringles from getting smashed...
Gravity is based on the mass of the two objects. We compared our mass, weight, and the gravitational pull of various locations in the solar system. Just to remind ourselves of the ideas surrounding gravity from Galileo and Aristotle, we dropped things. On purpose! We dropped eggs, cans of chili, potatoes, sports balls, and paintbrushes just to see if Galileo and Aristotle were correct.
With a mixture of groans and applause, we let Bill Nye explain gravity. Some of those skateboarding accidents really looked painful!
Today we spent the morning in Tremonton at the STEM Fair 2015. In our 20 minute classes, we finished our mini-unit on comets, meteors, meteoroids, meteorites, and asteroids. Grades are all updated!
Taurid meteor shower tonight! Look near the constellation Taurus around 3 am.
Today we took our planets test and started on comets, meteors, asteroids, meteoroids, and meteorites. End of trimester in two weeks... don't get behind!
Today we practiced using Venn diagrams to sort information and reviewed for our planets test tomorrow.
Today we put the finishing touches on our travel brochures. Unit test on planets will be on Tuesday Nov 10th!
We continued on our travel brochures today. Rough drafts were completed and work began on the final versions that should be done tomorrow.
Today we finished the last of the planets. The planet foldable is complete and will be graded tomorrow. We started on a travel brochure today where students get to show off their knowledge of the planet of their choice. We will be working on this until Friday.
Today we learned about Uranus and Pluto. The Universe explained why Pluto is no longer considered a planet.
We are nearing the end of the planets unit. Today we watched The Universe: Saturn and added the information to our foldable.
