Today we took the bacteria test and watched things decay before our eyes with time lapse photography.
We learned about some of the most common diseases caused by harmful bacteria with the substitute today.
We started our unit on bacteria today after making observations of the decaying food items.
We observed our decaying food and then learned about testing procedures for various microbes from Mythbusters. No rat pee on cans and plenty of bacteria around our homes.
Today we reviewed and took the test on fungi (not funguses). We also observed our decaying foods for the first time.
Decomposers take organic material and make them disintegrate, usually into fertile soils. We took a class vote on what we were going to let decompose. Class votes decided on lemons, cake, a hamburger, strawberries, banana, cheese, spinach, and two types of bread.
Today we watched how fungi is used in our world, including in the production of food and in the decomposition of waste.
Today we grew and fed yeast and watched the byproduct of their diet fill balloons- carbon dioxide.
We learned about all sorts of fungi today, including: morels, yeast, mushrooms, truffles, etc.
We took our protists test and then used Glo Germs to see how easily germs spread. How often do you wash your hands?
Today we practiced our protists with flash cards and drawing diagrams.
Today we learned how to separate protists based on their attributes. A game of 20 questions started our day.
What are producers and consumers? We learned the difference and recorded what each type of protist was.
We learned about some of the protists today with a video. Flagellum and cilia are for movement! Pseudopods are false feet!
Today we explored pond water with a virtual view. Students completed a webquest about various microorganisms that could be found in pond water.
Today we learned about microorganisms from the Kids Discover magazine and found answers to 39 perplexing questions about microbes. Hey, is that a boat?
How cheesy can it get? We found out by learning about three categories used to describe objects: living, non-living, and dead through a bad Science Court episode. We also learned about the 6 kingdoms of life.
We read about some of the key parts of space exploration and then took the test. The trimester grades are complete!
