Today we practiced our math facts (to help the math department) by logging into MobyMax. Mesopotamia maps are due Monday.
Today we worked on finishing our Mesopotamia maps. Bring your MobyMax login codes tomorrow!
Today we added several items to our study guides:
Mesopotamia means "land between the rivers" Those rivers are the Tigris and Euphrates The Fertile Crescent was great for farming because of the two rivers We then started on our Mesopotamia maps by labeling several of the ancient cities and the surrounding geography. Today we learned about the Neolithic Revolution and how staple crops helped form civilizations. We sampled quinoa and prepared for Mesopotamia.
Staple crops are food sources that provide enough nutrition to survive off of (at least temporarily). Examples include corn, wheat, beef cattle, rice, and chickens. The domestication of these food sources helped the early civilizations develop.
Today we watched a video explaining three theories of what happened to Ötzi. Mr. Frenzel will be back on Monday
Today we practiced our math facts with a game of Bingo and read about Ötzi the Ice Man.
Today we acted as archaeologists by exploring some frozen evidence from the past. We also learned about the Lascaux Cave in France.
Today we learned about the Paleolithic Age with Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon peoples. We looked at some of their tools (stone) and learned how important fire became to them.
Today we learned about the key words nomad, hunter-gatherer, and Paleolithic. We learned just how hard it would be to live the life of a hunter-gatherer and why life expectancy was so low. We capped off class with an explanation of BC vs AD and BCE vs CE.
Prehistory includes the time period before writing was invented. Today we examined what makes history again in preparation to learn about the beginnings of civilization.
Today we took our first test of the year. Grades will be posted asap.
Today we learned about the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn. We also did our final review for the test tomorrow.
Today we practiced finding latitudes and longitudes to find "global addresses". Test is coming up Thursday!
Today we learned about longitude and then watched a cheesy video explaining latitude and longitude and how they can be used to find "global addresses"
Today our 9/11 interviews were due. We learned about the events of 15 years ago and recognized the significance of those attacks.
Today we continued with the geography foldable and learned about latitude lines. We also started into learning about longitude lines.
Today we started our foldables to help us understand hemisphere, Equator, and the four directions. Students who had completed their 9/11 interviews turned in their completed assignment.
Today we practiced naming the continents and finished our study guide on the continents. Students who brought back completed 9/11 interviews turned them in.
Today we reviewed some of the continents and started a study guide on the continents. Students were also given the 9/11 interview assignment, which is due in one week (next Friday).
Today we learned what a continents is, what the 7 of them are (some textbooks teach a different number of continents), and what the four oceans we will be tested on are. We started a study guide for this unit.
