In Mr. Frenzel's absence we practiced the continents, oceans, and latitude/longitude addresses with maps and markers. We also played Four Cardinal Directions with the sub.
In remembrance of Patriot Day, we learned about the events of September 11, 2001. Our interview assignment was due today as well.
Today we learned about how to use latitude and longitude to identify a location on a map.
Today we added latitude (horizontal) lines and longitude (vertical) lines to our foldables.
We finished our previews of the continents today by learning a little about North and South America.
Today we received our interview assignment. It is due back by next Monday. We also learned about the 7 continents and 5 oceans that we will be tested on.
Today we learned about the Prime Meridian and the four cardinal directions (North, East, South, and West). We also labeled the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn on our foldables.
Today Mr. Frenzel attempted to perfect his mastery of student names. He'll have to try again tomorrow. We then started our geography foldable by adding an equator and the North and South directions.
We started our first unit of the year with a pretest (YUCK!). We then did an intro to continents and oceans. Disclosure due back by Friday!
Today we questioned ourselves what history is. We read about Philippe Petit and his famous high-wire walk between the Twin Towers and watched some news reports. We then discussed with neighbors whether something historical needed to be written down or not. Disclosures are due back by Friday!
Today we received our disclosure statements to take home. Our first assignment of the year is to have parents sign the orange part and return it by Friday, September 1.
Today we learned about Egyptian social classes. Our focus was on the importance of the pharaoh.
Today we learned about symbols that were significant to Egyptian mythology, such as the ankh, the was scepter, the scarab beetle, and the tyet. Students drew pictures of each one and wrote down what they symbolized.
Today we learned about some of the mythology stories of ancient Egypt and some of the gods and goddesses of the civilization.
Today we learned about the magic of Abu Simbel and the amazing ability of the Egyptians to construct temples and do math.
Today we met Pharaoh Clucky and learned about how mummification worked. 2nd hour did MobyMax with the substitute since it is a shortened week.

Ramses had many a project that started. One of them included placing great stone obelisks at the entrance to the temple. We learned how the cut them, moved them and put them into place. We did our regular MobyMax schedule.
Today is the last night of conferences. We finished learning about the pyramids and worked on our Egypt maps.

Today we started our Egypt unit by learning about the natural defenses of the deserts and the importance of the Nile River.
We took our unit test on Mesopotamia today. Class averages were awesome! We also spent time with Moby Max for math practice.
Today we reviewed our unit concepts, including bartering, Code of Hammurabi, polytheism vs monotheism, Epic of Gilgamesh, and others. We used the Kahoot! game to help us review for the test.
